Topic: Neverball 1.5.0 released! (The long version.)

Well, jamm already gave it all away, but since I had a short announcement prepared with a few important notes, I'm posting it separately.  So...

--

Neverball 1.5.0 has been released.  Visit neverball.org for downloads and a list of changes since 1.4.0.

A few things you should be aware of before launching this version for the first time, if you've ever played Neverball 1.4.0:

* Replays

To address several replay instability issues, the replay mechanism has been mostly rewritten, so replays recorded with earlier versions are incompatible with and are not read by Neverball 1.5.0.  A replay converter has not been written, but is not out of the question, although it might not be very useful since many of the existing levels have had significant changes.

* High-scores

Due to high-score file format having changed to support bonus levels, countless changes to many levels and all sets having gone through a major reorganisation, conversion of existing high-score files is not possible.  NOTE: Neverball 1.5.0 will overwrite existing high-score files, so back them up if you want to preserve your 1.4.0 scores and progress.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this release in any way.

So spread the word!  Today is when pigs fly.  thwomps/smile

Yee-haw! I got the first reply!

What a momentous occasion! It has been a very long road, but we finally got there. In celebration of the release, neverball 1.5.0 will be the first 3D game that I play on my new computer! Just downloaded and installed it!

A HUGE thanks to parasti for all of his help - he was the driving force behind 1.5 getting finished!

Three cheers for parasti - Hip hip...

Re: Neverball 1.5.0 released! (The long version.)

4 were Source, 20 were Windows and 160 were Mac OS X.

Someone has either put the OSX version on Digg/Slashdot/MacUpdate/VersionTracker, or something is terribly wrong with the world... I thought OSX was a minority operating system?!

Re: Neverball 1.5.0 released! (The long version.)

It is. They are just trying to make it *look* like there's a lot of them by downloading multiple copies using IP masking/readdressing to skew the results in favor of OSX...

Or else maybe Neverball just really rocks. or rOSX, which almost sounds like rocks.

That's not exactly what I had in mind thwomps/grin although I would like to.

However, I just noticed that the link to "Official Site" beneath the Neverball banner in the forum still points to the old website.

Just tried to addict a friend of mine. After 1.5 hours of playing, he is currently at hard 5, where hard 4 took about the last 20 minutes. Seems the learning curve is gentle indeed!

Re: Neverball 1.5.0 released! (The long version.)

Great work everybody!  I'm so happy, I'm gonna express my emotions in the form of Hello Kitty: kao118

I got an update notice from a Mac software site last night at 11:30pm.  I don't know how they found out, but that might have kicked off some OSX downloads.

Re: Neverball 1.5.0 released! (The long version.)

The site officially went live around 10-11pm EST (Botson, MA).

Re: Neverball 1.5.0 released! (The long version.)

So if you guys want to post release announcements anywhere, go right ahead.  happypenguin is probably a good target.  You all put a lot of work into this, and you're free to reap any fame and attention you can.

My one request is that you NOT go stuffing ballot boxes.  There are a number of software ranking sites out there, and some groups encourage their users to up-vote as often as possible in order to inflate their rank.  Do not do that.

Re: Neverball 1.5.0 released! (The long version.)

I posted an update to Game Tome.  I was going to post one to Freshmeat too, but the project page there is locked down and apparently only to be edited by the guy who created it...

Re: Neverball 1.5.0 released! (The long version.)

Wow.. stoked. Parasti, you should feel really good about your efforts to pull this thing across the finish line.
Good work everybody!

What's that Fedora games icon/link on the LGT Neverball's sheet??

It was there before.  I don't know why it's there, but it's in the descriptions of many games on Game Tome.

I really do.  I might have pissed off a few people and made one too many compromises while trying to get this done as quickly as possible, but I think it was definitely worth it.
